Thanks Eva! We couldn't do all the hard work without passionate people like you that can help educate others about puppy mills and the pet stores that profit from this cruel cycle. Currently, we are not a 501c3 organization so we cannot accept donations at this time. However, your kind comment definitely keeps us going. Please continue to share ZoeyStory as well as Protected Paws to draw further attention to puppy mills. Thanks again - xo -Z*

I came very close to buying a puppy with APRI registry, but I had this nagging feeling. I didn't buy her. For what most breeders are charging to buy a puppy with APRI (which I found out means NOTHING), they should be AKC. At least then, we would know what we are buying. I don't agree with all this cross breeding of different breeds. I always thought the purpose of AKC was to prove it was a pure bred. This is just my opinion.

Hi Michelle,
Thank you for your comment! At this time I do not know of an organization that is transporting the animals back to the United States. However, if you are looking to adopt a new member to your family we would be more than happy to assist you in that process. There are so many great dogs in shelter right now waiting for a loving home. Please contact me at info (at) zoeystory.com or comment back. Best - Z*

Hey Guys,

I'm a researcher for the series Confessions: Animal Hoarding, currently airing on Animal Planet, which as you know, tells the stories of people overwhelmed by the number of pets they own.

If you are concerned about the health of animals in someone's care and suspect they may be hoarding them, we might be able to help.

Most animal hoarders don’t see themselves as hoarders, and sometimes don’t intentionally collect animals. Their relationship with their animals has threatened their relationships with friends and family.

Most of these situations aren’t dealt with until they become criminal. This results in animals being euthanized by over-stressed shelters, and doesn’t address the underlying psychological issues - meaning nearly 100% of people end up in the same situation again.

We are dedicated to finding comprehensive long-term solutions and believe therapy to be key to this. We can bring in experts to help people and their pets.

If you or someone you know needs help because animals have overrun their life, visit www.animalhoardingproject.com to learn more and submit their story. Alternatively, contact me directly at sara@animalhoardingproject.com or toll-free at
1 -877-698-7387.

We will treat all submissions with confidentiality and respect.

While I do not generally agree with the idea of banning certain breeds of dogs I am beginning to agree with the idea that, for their own safety, it may be best if the breeding of pit bulls is placed under strict controls. I have no doubt that, when raised and cared for by a loving owner, these are fine and loyal companion animals. Unfortunately there seems to be no way to keep these beautiful animals out of the hands of cruel people who enjoy abusing them and forcing them to fight for the amusement of sick people. They are also abused by people who want a "mean" dog to show how tough they are or, all too often, to protect illegal activities. Irresposible or ignorant owners are most often to blame when these, and other dogs both large and small, bite or attack people or other animals. When that happens the dog is blamed and both the animal and the person attacked are victims. I am coming to believe that banning certain breeds may be the only way to protect the animals in question from humans. I realize that is not the reason many people or communities are calling for bans on "vicious" breeds. We need a ban on vicious owners.
